Race Report, June 18
Under gray, humid skies, Team Weaver rolled east to Grand Rapids Speedway. Skyler started close to the pole in his heat, and battled for first place much of the race. With second place locked, he went for it, but was passed by Davy Mills in the yellow No. 22, and one other car. Skyler finished fourth.
In the feature, he started near the front, led for several laps, then battled with three other top runners the rest of the way. He finished a fine fourth place, with no damage but one bent rim. The Grand Rapids track was in great shape, and the humid, overcast skies kept the sun from drying out the track. "Fast and furious racing," was crew chief Bill Smith's judgment. We have been particularly pleased with our homemade, "Bill-built" motor--but now I've probably jinxed it, hehe....
Look for us this coming Sunday at Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN, which is just off Hwy 10 east of Moorhead. It's another great short track, with very sticky Red River Valley black gumbo surface. We ran well there in our Mod-Four two summers ago, and are excited to see how Skyler handles our Midwest Mod there.
