Race Report June 11

(Today's race post by Skyler's mother, Johanna)

Racing at Grand Rapids Speedway is a nice change.  We  always enjoy seeing Mick Jensen and family (Mod 4 Rookie Of The Year 2 years ago @ Bemidji Speedway).  He is always supportive of Weaver Racing Team and gives me the "its okay Mom" when things get hairy scary.  Polly and Howie Baxter were there; Polly is Skylers best (& loudest) cheerleader ever  and they rarely miss a race.  The Barrett family also showed up.  I always watch the race from the stands so I get to share the excitement on that side with Skyler later.  Team Weaver has acquired quite a following of good people!

Drivers at Grand Rapids Speedway seemed to use their skill rather than ramming their way through the race, resulting in fewer yellow flags, bad calls and a better flow in the heats.  Skyler finished 6th in his heat.  There were 15 cars in the feature with Skyler starting in 11th position.  It appeared if as if he took corner one too high, and  it was a struggle to get out of the marbles for corner two, as we saw when # 40 went off into the woods.

On corner four there was a sandy hole that would grab you and since the track is wide enough for several cars, that made it  interesting.  Skyler and the red #11 battled it out for about four laps before Skyler took a good lead on him for the rest of the race, finishing 7th  in the feature.  It was good competitive racing all night!

A note a race safety:  after the recent fatality  of driver  of Modified driver John Schultz at Red River Valley Speedway,  Team Weaver has made an increased commitment to racing safety.  Skyler will be one of the first drivers in the Midwest Modified  classto use a HANS devcie (head and neck safety restraint), and II have to admit Mom feels better now that Skyler will be wearing one!  There is no $ amount to compare with your life.

I want to thank Trish and Jamie at HANS Performance Products for getting it here before the next race!
