Opening Day, May 11 '08--Mother's Day

Skyler's mom, Joanna, was in the stands to watch him finish a solid fifth place in the Mod-Four feature race.  After a bad draw, which put him far back for the heat races, Sklyer made some strong moves in the feature to move up to fourth place. On a yellow flag restart, he lost one place, to finish fifth.  We'll take it.  Racing is not about winning every time, but about being consistent over the season. Which accumulates points.  If a racer finished fifth place every time, he would finish well up in the final season standings--probably in the top ten.  And that's where we hope to be in this, our second season.

The weather was great--sunny and 55 degrees--and the new motor ran well.  We had one small "issue" with racing safety; I have talked to the team about always having a fire extinguisher handy, especially when refueling.  In the excitement of opening night, that didn't happen, and I was not happy.   It's something we'll have to address in a team meeting before we race again.  Safety first is our motto.

And the more I think about it, Christy riding on No. 16 (see photo) is not real cool either.  I said "okay" to that, but shouldn't have.

Anyway, it was a great night of small town, dirt-track racing.  Stay tuned, and keep track of Skyler's point total at WISSOTA.org, in the Mod-Four class.

Over and out on this fine Mother's Day....

Dear Mr. Weaver and TEAM WEAVER,

My 5th period English class agrees that the team should be smart about safety issues. Safety is a big responsibility so you as the owner are right in caring about it. One way to convince the team is what the kids that take small engine repair class at our school understand. Being safe doesn't mean that you can't have fun at the same time.

The car and new engine both look awesome! Perhaps you could bring it to Hallettsville on your next visit.
