Off Season 5

Racing never sleeps, evening in snowy Minnesota in January.  Just got back from crew chief Bill Smith's shop.  Our No. 16 is in pieces--engine hung on a motor stand, axles on the floor, parts all over––as Bill goes through the entire car.  The full tube frame is being repainted (bright cherry red).  New tin sides will be hung on the car this week, after which the car (minus the engine) goes to our lettering and design guy, Tim Meyers of Bemidji.  He's coming up with a fresh new look for the car--which you'll see here first.  We are sticking with red and yellow on black, but with some new accents....

On my end of Team Weaver Racing, I've been on the road making a buck plus organizing the spring car tour.  We'll be taking No. 16 (and probably Skyler) on a loop through central Minnesota.  We'll visit schools and maybe a library here and there to help promote SATURDAY NIGHT DIRT (coming in April!).  So far we have more invitations than we can handle--but that's a good thing.  Before and after the car tour I'll be traveling to Texas, Ohio, Mississippi, North Dakota and more to talk about the racing novels.  Lots of excitement out there.

And, as always, I'm in close touch with my book publisher in New York as FSG strategizes on getting the MOTORNOVELS into the hands of readers everywhere.  My editor, Wes, has been in touch with my design guy, Tim.  Wes said in a email that he never imagined being a book editor would involve something "so cool as" a real race car.  I can't wait for Wes to see the car in person--this coming summer for sure.

P.S.  Our design guy is excited to design a No. 16 tee shirt as well.  We want something really bright and wild.

We are very excited about this new series of books and Mr. Weaver will be visiting our school in April. Are there any promotional posters/books that we can use at school to get the kids excited about the school visit?

      Hi Gwen,
Yeah, we're excited, too, about bringing the car and Skyler to schools--including Big Lake.

We're working on some promo materials such as posters, and will be in touch as soon as they're done.

Thanks for your excitement about SATURDAY NIGHT DIRT!
